Unlike any other coffee around the world, Mandailing was not named after the region where the coffee beans are grown, but rather it was named after an ethnic group living in the region. Not only the naming history that makes Mandailing coffee unique, also the combination of North Sumatra’s rich volcanic soil and its humid tropical climate gives Mandailing its signature body and rustic sweetness that has earned its popularity worldwide.
COFFEE PROCESSING
Removing the fruit flesh with a machine is the first step in the washed process. Afterwards, the coffee beans are fermented in a water tank and washed to remove any remaining fruit flesh. The washed process brings out the bright and acidic flavours in the coffee with a clean aftertaste.
